Mr. Edwards and Mrs. Baker help kids, make sure students are in the right classes, and help students with personal concerns. Mrs. Kerr and Mrs. Hull do two different and also important jobs. Mrs. Kerr runs the Career Center, where she has a bunch of Community Service you can sign up for. She even helps students figure out their career pathways and assists them on the web to either apply for a scholarship or college. She has every students best work of papers and projects for each year in their portfolios. Mrs. Hull keeps things in order. She keeps records of all the students, enrolling and withdrawing them as they come and go. She sends transcripts upon request and assists the counselors.
The Staff Members in the Guidance/Career Center take time to guide students to the right path or help them in the path that they choose. They make sure that we students will do the necessary steps to apply to college for scholarships, and even take us on field trips get a hands-on experience at colleges. Here are things they had to say about working with students they have met with over the years:
Question 1: What do you do on a daily basis at school?
Answers:
Mrs. Baker:
Mrs. Baker meets with students regarding high school graduation to help students with their career paths. She even helps students with their personal concerns. She makes sure to work with teachers & students for a good learning environment and keeps in contact with parents to be supportive to their kids. She also assists with Cruiser Ambassadors & Peer Mediation Team and is an overall advocate for all students.
Mr. Edwards:
Mr. Edwards responds to parents & concerns, deals with college applications, career questions, scholarships, personal problems, Jobcorps, class changes during the first 10 days of the semester, advisory, answering e-mail, consulting teachers with schedules, and student recommendations.
Mrs. Hull:
Enrolls new students, runs interference with counselors, keeps files on all the students, gives out lots of information about scholarships, send transcripts for 100’s of people in and outside of school, keeps monthly reports, supports other offices and teachers, among other things!
Mrs. Kerr:
Helps student determine their pathway, plans with students,assist with scholarships, keeps portfolios of student’s work, and she offers community service to all the students.
Question 2: What inspired you to help kids?
Answers:
Mrs. Baker:
I started as an educator for 6th grade, then got a Master’s for Guidance & Counseling, and it was a good change.
Mr. Edwards:
Major education in college and worked in restaurants. Mr. Edwards friend helped kids that were ‘special’ and helped those kids in the restaurant when he was younger. He then got interested in helping kids by this way and decided to go into teaching in college and later decided to learn counseling for his graduate degree.
Mrs. Hull:
“I like high school kids. I have 5 kids of my own, so I am familiar with ‘the needs’ of a high school student.” Assisting them to achieve their goals is very rewardign.
Mrs. Kerr:
I like seeing kids be successful and excited about their plans after high school. “It’s very rewarding to hear from students who tell me later what they’re doing in their lives.”
Question 3: How do you feel when you work with these students?

“Successful when I see results.”
Mr. Edwards:
“Good and rewarding!”
Mrs. Hull:
“Hopeful about the future.”
Mrs. Kerr:
“Energized and proud of them!”
Question 4: What is your favorite activity that is helpful to the students of EHS?
Answers:
Mrs. Baker:
“I like not just one activity, but I get to help students with different needs. Those never being the same, is a good variety.”
Mr. Edwards:
Financial Aid workshop for Seniors or the Dollars for Scholars for Seniors. “I think it’s great that the community is helping students.”
Mrs. Hull:
Career Center helping with college and directing them to the next step.
Mrs. Kerr:
The WOIS Program & College Planning.
Question 5: When is the Career Center/Guidance Office open?
Answers:
All:
Mrs. Kerr 7AM to 3:30PM for the Career Center and Mr. Edwards comes early for Guidance Office at 6:30AM and Mrs. Baker stays later until 3:30.
Question 6: What type of education do you have that pertains your position?
Answers:
Mrs. Baker:
Master of Guidance & Counseling, Bachelor of Education, & Associate in Arts & Science.
Mr. Edwards:
Master in Guidance and Counseling. Also went to Centeral WA U, City University.
Mrs. Hull:
Some college, some business college and lots of experience.
Mrs. Kerr:
Associates in Arts & Science Degree. 10 years experience in running the EHS Career Center.
