  What was your favorite subject in High School?: History and Economics

  What made you want to become a teacher?: “I enjoyed working with High School students and I wanted to have an impact on kids.                    


Why did you choose to teach History?: “I love History and I wanted to be able to teach it in a way that would make others love it.”


What’s your favorite historical conflict?: Punic Wars: Carthage vs. Rome.

If you could go back in time and meet any person, who would it be?: Ben Franklin.

What time period do you enjoy teaching the most?: “I enjoy teaching about Ancient Rome and World War 2.”

  How many years have you been teaching?: 11 years

  What’s your favorite method of teaching, why?: “Story telling, I love getting into my subject.”

  What’s your favorite book, why?: Ball Four, by Jim Bouton

  What’s your favorite movie, why?: “Tombstone, I love the old west, History, and it has some great lines.”

  Who was your role model growing up? Has it changed? If so, why?: “Ryne Sandberg, Ronald Reagan,   and my father.”

  What did you want to be when you were growing up?: “I wanted to be a professional baseball player.”

  What schools did you attend?: Lathrop High School, Centralia High School, Golden West College, and  

  The University of Puget Sound.

Mr. Guertner (US History, World History, World Cultures)

  What was your favorite subject in High School?: “History, Government, and Wood Shop.”

What made you want to become a teacher?: “Mr. Smith, my High School 

History teacher. I also wanted to share my love of Social Studies with  others.”

Why did you choose to teach History?: “There are lots of topics to teach. History is important, you have to understand the past to know the future.”

What’s your favorite historical conflict?: “Any conflict between Greece and Persia.”

  If you could go back in time and meet any person, who would it be?: “Julius Caesar.”

  What time period do you enjoy teaching the most?: “I enjoy teaching ancient history: Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome.”

  How many years have you been teaching?: 36 years

  What’s your favorite method of teaching, why?: “ I don’t really have one. I use different ways because  kids learn differently.”

  What’s your favorite book, why?: “Any book about fishing. Fishing is my vacation.”

  What’s your favorite movie, why?: “Hondo, it was the first movie I saw.”

  Who was your role model growing up? Has it changed? If so, why?: “Mr. Smith, my High School History 

  Teacher, my Dad, and Mr. Sala, my High School Wood Shop teacher.”

  What did you want to be when you were growing up?: “I wanted to raise Cattle.”

  What schools did you attend?: “Everett Jr. College, Central Washington University, University of

  Washington, Oregon State University, Western Washington University, Pacific Lutheran University, City

  University, and Antioch University.”

  What was your favorite subject in High School?: History and P.E.

What made you want to become a teacher?: “I wanted to have an impact on kids lives.”


Why did you choose to teach History?: “I love teaching about the roots of different cultures, it helps people understand other cultures.”

What’s your favorite historical conflict?: Misunderstanding of cultures

If you could go back in time and meet any person, who would it be?: Ghandi

What time period do you enjoy teaching the most?: “Anything between the 1700’s to the present.”

  How many years have you been teaching?: 11 Years

  What’s your favorite method of teaching, why?: “I like to share my hard experiences with my students.”

  What’s your favorite book, why?: “Anything by John Wooden. To me, he is a legend and a great inspiration.”

  What’s your favorite movie, why?: “Remember The Titans, for it’s historical inspiration.”

  Who was your role model growing up? Has it changed? If so, why?: “My older brothers and Mohandas

  Ghandi a great, and inspiring leader.”

  What did you want to be when you were growing up?: “A nurse or a teacher.”

  What schools did you attend?: “Rochester High School, Eastern Washington University, St. Martin

  University, and Antioch University.”

Mr. Hunke (World History, US History, AP US History)

  What was your favorite subject in High School?: History

What made you want to become a teacher?: “I wanted to be a doctor, but I don’t like blood so I changed to another service job that I was interested in. Once I got a taste I was hooked.”

Why did you choose to teach History?: “It was my favorite subject, but also because of the ability to learn so many interesting things about the world and share it with others.”

What’s your favorite historical conflict?: “Persian War, WW2, and the Revolutionary War.”

  If you could go back in time and meet any person, who would it be?: Alexander The Great

  What time period do you enjoy teaching the most?: “Ancient Greece, followed closely by WW2, and the Cold War era.”

  How many years have you been teaching?: 7 years

  What’s your favorite method of teaching, why?: “I have many methods...”

  What’s your favorite book, why?: “Probably Gates Of Fire, by Stephen Pressfield (about the battle of Thermopylae)”

  What’s your favorite movie, why?: “Field Of Dreams, it was great.”

  Who was your role model growing up? Has it changed? If so, why?: “My Grandfather... It hasn’t changed

  although my Dad is a close second.”

  What did you want to be when you were growing up?: “First a doctor... but I didn’t like blood so teaching

  became the thing for me.”

  What schools did you attend?: “Firgrove, Ballou, BAE from Western Washington University, and

  working on MED from the University of Washington.”

Mr. Fountain (US History, CWP, World Cultures)

  What was your favorite subject in High School?: "I really enjoyed most subjects. I don't know if I had a    favorite."

What made you want to become a teacher?: "I felt that I could help people understand the world and i enjoyed working with people."


Why did you choose to teach History?: "National and international politics have always festinated me."

What’s your favorite historical conflict?: The Cold War

If you could go back in time and meet any person, who would it be?: Marco Polo

What time period do you enjoy teaching the most?: 1945-present including the Cold War."

  How many years have you been teaching?: 36 years

  What’s your favorite method of teaching, why?: “I like a combination of  

  lecture and student input so that students can relate their knowledge to new situations.”

  What’s your favorite book, why?: “I can’t say that I have a favorite book, I have been influenced by a lot  of different writers.”

  What’s your favorite movie, why?: “I like the “Hunt For Red October” with Sean Connery because of the

  late Cold War subjects, the suspense, and I like Sean Connery.”

  Who was your role model growing up? Has it changed? If so, why?: “In my early years my role models

  were my family members. Later it became legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden, because of

  his approach to coaching and life in general.”

  What did you want to be when you were growing up?: “I was interested in going into international  business.”

  What schools did you attend?: “Clarkson High School, and The University of Washington.”
